... because that's what's tickling my fancy right now! (The end of the long Doctor Who meme.)
Day 30 – Whatever Tickles Your Fancy
So I've been watching Torchwood as it pops up on BBCAmerica; god forbid they should show it in order, but
jkason gave me the run-down of the overall plots a while ago after he burned through it on Netflix, so I can fill in the blanks. (It's a bit like when I watched Farscape.)
Anyway, it's wildly uneven so far. And as Jason pointed out, Captain Jack from Doctor Who is not the same person as Jack on Torchwood, and this bothers me a bit since there is some overlap. But I love Ianto; I love the actor's body language, I love how he seems to be sort of helplessly in love with Jack but doesn't trust him at all ...
And I got to see the episode where Spike comes back (I'm sorry, I know they named the character, but he was really just Spike with a wristband and no fangs ... and I am perfectly okay with that!), and damn but I adore tormented, messed-up James Marsters. He's this utter evil bastard, and then he just shoots this one vulnerable look ... and I feel bad for him.
I really liked the episode with Tosh and the frozen soldier from 1918, but Scott didn't. Still, I thought it was a much more solid episode than the one where the weird dude is manipulating them with ghosts to get them to open the rift ( spoilers )
Honestly, the best one I've seen so far is Gwen's wedding. That one was a freaking riot, and worked so well, and how come "adult-oriented" (as opposed to how Doctor Who is more family-oriented) means depressing? I mean, sure, let's have all the sexy bits, but could we maybe have more fun? Adults have fun!
But maybe I just haven't seen the fun episodes yet.
