'omg my mom joined facebook!!'

That's a New York Times piece on the perils of joining your kid's internet social network. I found it interesting on a number of levels, one of them being that if we'd had LiveJournal or MySpace or whatever back when I was in high school, and my mother had joined it, all of my friends would have added her immediately. I probably would have, too--my mom and I have always been pretty close, but part of the reason why was her amazing ability to walk the fine line of hanging out with a group of teenagers without looking like she was trying to be one of the gang. Her age probably had a lot to do with that, too--she was 20 when I was born, so she was one of the youngest parents around.

The good thing about LJ, though, is that if the Zweeble ever wants to start a journal he can't get cranky with me--I was here first.** Of course, by the time the Zweeble is ready to have an online presence, MySpace will be the site where the old, lame people hang out. I can only imagine what the cool site for the Zweeble's peer group will look like ... it'll probably cause seizures.

I have been a little curious about Facebook, though--it keeps coming up in things I'm reading--so I may have to go check it out. Is anyone here on Facebook?

**can you imagine having a LiveJournal for 13+ years? I'll probably have changed my username 5 times by then.***

***speaking of which, I'm thinking about "girlgonzola" as a new username. I'm a girl, and I like cheese. Thoughts?

I am. It's actually really good for sharing photos. You can tag a picture with who's in it, and anyone who's tagged in a pic can see all those pictures at once. You can also filter photos to just your friends (I did that with the Rocky photos, for example). I found it quite handy, at least, being in a show with a lot of folks who take more pictures than I do. And it's got a nice mellow site design that doesn't cause bleeding in the eyes like MySpace does.

If you want, next time we get together I can let you take a look at my Facebook.

That would be great--it sounds like it'd be really good for NC photos and such.
