So a New York Times article saying that all 24 toy (or possibly children's products in general?) recalls thus far this year can be traced back to China ran yesterday. The most recent being Thomas the Tank Engine toys coated with lead paint.
Now, first of all--what the hell is going on in China lately? Pet food, toothpaste, toys ... good grief. Were I a conspiracy theorist ... but whatever.
Second of all--do you know how many things are made in China? (yeah, yeah, pet food, toothpaste, and toys--hush, I have a point to make.) I went around today glancing at all of the Zweeble's toys, and guess what? Taiwan is not the manufacturing capital it once was.
Apparently, also according to the article, 80% of children's products/toys are made in China.
Mostly the problems are with off-brands, though, and I'm a bit of a brand-name snob. Hilariously enough, because I feel a lot safer when I recognize a brand name. Still, I keep glancing at stuff, wondering what horrors lurk beneath the surface ...
Life is risk, I guess, even from day 1. And parenting is worry for-freaking-ever.
Speaking of which, I finally found that damned spider from the car seat--it was dead in the diaper bag the other day.
I tried out the new sling I bought (made in China!), and it rocked! Calmed the fussy little guy down and let me actually do some stuff. I did the tummy to tummy wrap, and it was a little bit like being pregnant again, especially when he would shift his hands around and give me the same squirmy feeling I remember. :)
And a note to John Cusack: if Samuel L. Jackson tells you not to do something, then don't do it. Seriously.
