I love Doctor Who. Seriously. Like, to the point where I want to upgrade my Netflix membership so's I can rent old seasons and watch the ones with the scarf doctor and the bad special effects.

And right now, it's my only show. I kid you not. Gilmore Girls is over, Lost is on hiatus and I still haven't watched the finale, Stargate is done, and Battlestar Galactica won't be back until next year, and much like Lost, I find I can skip the entire middle of the season without too much confusion. Doctor Who is the only thing on right now that I actually take time to watch. And it makes me ever so happy. Like Buffy, a blah ep of Doctor Who is still better than everything else on TV. Though I have liked everything thus far this season.

I'm also considering renting the first season of Veronica Mars. No, I never did watch it before. Yes, I heard all the "next best thing to Buffy" comments, even from Joss Whedon. You know what actually got me to watch regularly? Finding out that Rob Thomas created it--and no, not the Cupid connection; I was aware of that. No, I watched one episode, thought "Hang on, this style and dialogue seems familiar ... " and yes, gang, it's the same Rob Thomas who wrote Rats Saw God, one of the best YA novels I've ever read. It just took me forever to put it all together in my Mommy-dazed head. Plus I Wikipediaed the storylines, and holy cats, I wanna see how they pulled *that* off.

I believe that, this fall, I will attempt to watch Pushing Daisies and probably Reaper. And Heroes.

Did I ever mention I saw Casanova starring David Tennant as Casanova? Written by Russell T. Davies, as well, and really great. There was this montage of Casanova speaking to government pooh-bahs in several countries, in English, but asking, "How is my French?" "Oh, it's very good, actually." "How is my Spanish?" "Quite good, really." Until, finally, "How is my English?" "Very good, but you do have a bit of an accent." Cracked me up.

I feel like maybe I need to start watching Dr Who.

Obviously I love Veronica Mars and recommend it. Funny thing is that I didn't know that there was a book called Rats Saw God, but there's also a VM episode called that.

Dr Who is funny and English, so if you like that and like science fiction-y stuff, then it's really cool. Oh, and last season and this season there were ... uh ... cats. Sorta. :)

I'd recommend Rats Saw God, too--actually, he wrote a few YA books, and they aren't mysteries or anything, but they read like the show. Snarky and cool and slightly over-the-top.

What clicnched Veronica for me was when she did the "Pulp Fiction" thing--"Look at the big brain on Brett!"
