I got my DVDs of the last two Doctor Who specials. We watched them tonight.
Short reviews: "Waters of Mars" - really, really good. Really good. Seriously, really good. Did I mention it was really good?
"The End of Time" - um ... probaby suffered a lot from seeing it directly after "Waters of Mars." A bit uneven, but the good stuff was very good. I am not sure about the new guy, but we shall see.
1. It is amazing how much the actor playing the Master looked like a young Derek Jacobi. Must be the blond hair.
2. There was a line missing, I thought. The Master should have yelled, "You did this to me when I was a child, and it didn't even work?! You idiots!" before zapping the Time Lords back into the abyss.
3. I could have done without the Ood song turning into something by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. It's not the death of Christ, here, folks, it's the Doctor. I like him, too, but let's have a bit of perspective.
4. What happened to Martha's fiance from season 4? Because it wasn't Mickey Smith.
5. The guy playing Donna's fiance looked like our friend Darin, and that was highly distracting. But oddly made me feel like Donna was marrying a nice guy, so that was okay.
So, yeah. I'm bummed. But there's still a season of Lost to watch before the only thing left is to get addicted to Fringe ... actually, I keep thinking that when Lost is over, we'll have to upgrade our Netflix and start renting TV seasons to watch once a week. I still haven't seen Torchwood or Veronica Mars. And maybe by the time we work through that, there'll be something on I want to watch regularly again.
And my final note: I may like the new Doctor, but I think I can safely say that he's too young for me to have a crush on. Sayid is going to have to bear the brunt of my TV affections, I guess.
