Veronica Mars

So I bought the first season of Veronica Mars in March, started watching it a couple of weeks ago, and just got done watching it last night. I liked it a lot--I knew I liked the show, as I'd enjoyed the last season.
I mean, it does have issues ... I had a very hard time believing that Veronica waited that long to figure out who drugged and raped her. I know she had to take some time after the party to cut her hair and get jaded, sure, but she is so very confrontational, and they didn't really set up her avoiding the whole issue very well. Now, story-arc-wise, I can see why the writers waited that long--there are a few things that really have to happen before Veronica solves the mystery so that the story has the same kind of emotional resonance for the audience that it does for Veronica.
And this isn't an issue, but it is a spoiler--it's also just an observation, not a criticism: man, Lily Kane is just not a nice person at all, is she? I thought it interesting that all of these people--her father, Weevil, Logan, Duncan, Veronica--love her and talk about how much they love her all the time, but she's just not a nice person.
But what show doesn't have issues? Frankly, they are more than made up for by the fact that there's an amoral, ticked-off girl at the center of this show who fights back when people (especially boys) try to put her in her "place." And her new best friend is a guy. And her dad is awesome.
And oh, Logan Ecchols ... in real life I would not want you anywhere near me, you emotional train wreck, but you make me very happy whenever you're on screen.

Date: 2010-07-13 03:59 am (UTC)I did just watch the first episode of s2 of Veronica Mars and am sad, sad, sad that she's with Duncan. Nooo, Veronica, stay with the emotionally unstable guy, I like him *better*! Duncan's boring, unless he has a seizure ...

They can't decide if they want the main couple to be together or not so they just keep waffling to the point that it becomes kind of stupid. But there's a scene between the main vampire guy and Jason Dohring that's pretty emotional and also kind of hot. Also, his character is a pretty interesting one, vampire-wise, so I was always happy to see him.

Oh, and hello there, Buffy alumni on VM.
